Vaughan Record Exchange

Sell Your Records

We are always interested in buying well-cared-for, quality record collections.

What type of music do we buy?

Rock, jazz, blues, punk, metal, reggae/ska, funk, soul, folk, new wave, psychedelic, goth, alternative, soul, hip hop, indie, r&b, soundtracks, electronic and many other genres. We have purchased several very large collections in the past several years.

What type of music do we generally NOT buy?

Classical, most country (we do buy some country such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams etc), most vocalists music (we do buy some vocalist music such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan etc), show tunes, easy listening and religious records.

Do we only buy large collections?

No record collection is too big or small for VREX. We will buy anything from 1 record to 25,000.  For larger collections we are willing to make house calls.  It will all depend on what type of records you have in your collection.  Generally we will ask you for a description of the collection including a list of some of the artists and some photographs beforehand.

We only buy well cared for, quality records:

We examine the condition of every record we buy.  We do not buy records that are mouldy, warped, badly scratched or have water damage.  You can bring in small batches of records for sale or trade anytime.  This process generally takes 30 minutes or less and can be done while you shop.  However, during busy times, or if you have a larger collection, you may have to wait a bit longer.  You are welcome to leave the records with us and we can call you when we are ready to make you an offer.  If you have a larger collection you would like to sell, contact us to arrange a time to bring it in to the store for appraisal. Remember that we have free parking at our front door.

What do we pay for records?

It depends.  As a general rule we pay 50% of what we can sell it for.  However, it all depends on what you have.  Condition, rarity, desirability and whether we have a lot of the same records in stock will factor in to the price we can pay.  For common records we might offer slightly less than 50% and for rare/collectable records in great condition we would pay more than 50%.  Please note that some popular records in the 70s and 80s sold millions of copies and are often extremely common used records.  However, 50% of what we can sell it for is the rule of thumb.  VREX wants to pay a very fair price so that you are happy and will recommend us to others!
